Cane Ridge Meeting House

Said to be the largest one-room log building still in existence in the United States, the Cane Ridge Meeting House was built in 1791 of blue ash logs by Presbyterians among the early settlers in the county. In August of 1801, one of the largest camp meetings on the frontier was held at Cane Ridge. The revival meeting was said to have attracted more than 20,000 people to the fields and woods around the small, out-of-the-way meeting house. Barton Stone, minister at Cane Ridge during this period, went on to establish the Christian Church, which in turn gave birth to the Disciples of Christ, the Independent Christian Church and the Church of Christ.
In the 1950s, a stone superstructure was built
around the log meeting house in order to protect it from the
elements. Please call in advance for fall and winter hours: (859) 987-5350 .
