Cedar Heights
This African-American cemetery, which backs up to the Paris Cemetery, has an entrance located on Cypress St. It has been in existence since the 1870s and contains many old graves including those of African-Americans born before the end of slavery. Veterans of both World War I and World War II are buried at Cedar Heights and each Memorial Day, members of the Charles Young Post of the V.F.W. lay a wreath at the cemetery at the grave of an unknown soldier.
The back portion of the cemetery, which borders the Paris cemetery, has been used as a Potter's Field for well over 100 years. This is the location where those without funds were buried and the area contains an unknown number of unmarked graves.
Cedar Heights
Cemetery is supervised by a volunteer group who are trying to
maintain the cemetery using donated funds. All contributions to the
Cedar Heights Cemetery Fund are tax-deductible. Checks should be
made payable to the Cedar Heights Cemetery Fund and can be mailed to
P.O. Box 302, Paris, KY 40362.
