Colville Bridge
Located north of Paris on KY 3118
 The
Colville covered bridge is one of only 13 covered bridges left in
Kentucky. At one time, there were more than 20 covered bridges in
Bourbon County alone including the double-span Cottontown bridge
which had a separate lane for each direction of traffic. The
Colville bridge was severely damaged by floods in 1997 and was
reconstructed by the state Department of Transportation as part of
the department's program to save the few remaining covered bridges
in the state. The bridge measures 124 feet long and 18 feet wide and
crosses Hinkston Creek. It was recently reopened to traffic and
visitors to the county can enjoy a drive through the timbered
tunnel. Originally built in 1877, this bridge is an excellent
example of burr truss construction, a combination of arch and truss,
patented by Theodore Burr in 1817.
